Our Local REALTORS® Adapt to COVID-19 Pandemic

Our Local REALTORS® Adapt to COVID-19 Pandemic

As the pandemic is affecting businesses across the province, we as REALTORS® are taking necessary precautions to continue to deliver our services while adhering to the federal and provincial mandates to protect our communities and clients.

Update on the current situation

  • As of April 4th, the provincial government ordered additional non-essential workplaces to close-down in an effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19
  • This excluded Real Estate agent services which was declared as an essential service
  • Additionally, all organized public events of over 5 people are prohibited

These orders will remain in place until April 13th, when the province will reassess for an extension or end the closures.

SGBAR has urged our REALTOR® members to adhere to the mandates set in place
During these uncertain times, the commitment of our Association to support and provide guidance for its members has not changed. We are working closely with RECO, OREA and CREA to shift our norms of doing business while maintaining our commitment to serve the needs of our clients. Brokerages and REALTORS® are to follow the direction of health officials therefore:

  • it is now illegal to facilitate or participate in an open house
  • it is recommended they limit showings to where they are absolutely necessary
  • Short-term rental accommodations after April 4th can only be provided to those in need of housing
  • REALTORS® are urged to stop all face-to-face business, agent and public office hours and in-person showings, particularity of tenant-occupied homes
  • IF an in-person showing is absolutely necessary, members are to follow their brokerage policy set in place for buyers and sellers to ensure all precautions are considered and addressed

Local REALTORS® have converted to digital
As REALTORS®, the health and safety of our community and clients are at the forefront when conducting business. Buying or selling a home is a complex and often very emotional process, being one of the biggest business transactions most of us will ever make. During this time, we continue to operate and provide support at a time of great uncertainty.

With the mandates set in place, we’ve made adjustments to continue to provide our services, using digital alternatives to carry us forward. We have access to a large variety of tools to shift our in-person communication to digital.

More than ever, we are staying connected to provide you with the expertise and guidance to buy or sell your home during this unprecedented time.

What you can expect
As far as what to expect in the near and distant future, it is very difficult to predict. The COVID-19 crisis affects everyone equally and each of us are called to pivot our business and our lives to adapt.  This a unique time in history where we have the opportunity to reflect on our dreams and our goals and prepare for the day when we go back to normal.

Even in a time of social distancing and isolation, community has never been more important and we as REALTORS® continue to be here for you.  Whether you are needing support or assistance, or looking for advice on your housing needs; your Local REALTOR® is only an e-mail or phone call away.  A list of our Local REALTORS® can be found here.

Please stay positive and lets all get through this together.

Stay well,

Mike Scholte
